We are pleased to announce our next exhibition at Holly Kai Garden. Opening on Saturday, April 16th, 2016, Mirrored Garden features the art of Master Pastelist Silas Merlin, known in the physical world as Jean-François Le Saint.
On the art terraces at Holly Kai Garden, Silas is presents two selections of his work, each framed by a poem written by Eala Du (CottonSwan), Where Is This Place? and Hands Form Into Puppets, which are on display with the two art selections.
“I will unashamedly admit that I’m pleased as punch to see Silas exhibiting at Holly Kai; his work is a must see for anyone remotely interested in art,” Holly Kai’s curator of art, Inara Pey said of the exhibition.
Pastels have been Silas’ primary medium since 1990, when he was studying at art school in Paris. Since 2009, he has been a Master Pastelist (Maître Pastelliste) of the Pastel Society of France (Société des Pastellistes de France).
On arriving in Second Life in 2007, Silas quickly found himself producing commissioned pastel portraits of avatars. He later took an extended break from the platform, returning in May 2014, recreating a physical world exhibition of his work in-world, producing a machinima of the results.
Since his return to SL, Silas has been exhibited in a number of galleries, as well as establishing his own in New Babbage.
Most recently, he has been teaching himself to sculpt in mesh, turning some of his images into 3D models – two versions of one of these, Mock Fight, forming a centerpiece to each terrace display, and he has in mind the idea of 3D printing some of his work.
Mirrored Garden will have an opening celebration on Saturday, April 16th, at 4:00pm SLT. We warmly invite you to attend and meet Silas as well as view his exhibition.
The celebration will take place on the terrace alongside the studio building at Holly Kai Garden, and DJ G-Windz, Gerrard Winstanley, will be spinning the tunes for our enjoyment. Smart casual dress is requested.
We look forward to seeing you at the opening.
